Day 1: The Heineken Experience. Taking a train from my hostel was convenient. The tram system in Amsterdam is easy to navigate. If you’re a beer lover, The Heineken Experience is a fun go-to. Book tickets online beforehand to skip the lines! It’s like a live indoor nightclub with lots of beer for patrons to try. You can check out stables, see old fermentation stations, and how the beer has been made. After the Heineken tour, you can roam around the city.
Day 2: Free City Walking Tour. At the center of town, you can find free city walking tours. This is the most affordable and convenient way to see the quick ins-and-outs of the city. Remember to tip your tour guide!!!
Day 3: The Museums. All the main museums in Amsterdam are in the same square. The famous Amsterdam sign is located in front of the Rijks museum. A Bansky Exhibit was in town and displayed at the Moco Museum across the square from Rijks.
Day 4: The Red Light District. Better experienced at night, The Red Light District on of the biggest tourist attractions in Amsterdam, where prostitution is legal and women are displayed in windows. Be respectful. Don’t take photos! Prostitution in Amsterdam is a protected career choice. If you’re feeling frisky, you can experience a live peep show and let loose at the many bars in the area.
Day 5: Canal Tour. Enjoy your last day in Amsterdam kicking back and boating through the canals. One of the best tours I experienced was the Drinks on Board Friendship Rederu Tour. It was only 15 Euros. It’s an open roof tour where you can lay back on cushioning, get served drinks, and live your best life!
Food Highlight: Noted as “One of the World’s Tastiest,” Van Stapele Koekmakerij is a small table in Amsterdam that just serves cookies. I stumbled across it when I decided to take a walking break with friends. We sat down on a bench and smelled cookies. We saw a line, got up, and wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Behold the tastiest, freshly baked chocolate cookie I’ve had below.
