Clothing quickly becomes a second thought to most college students as tuition bills begin to pile up. With the great expenses that higher education saddles us with, it’s often hard to believe that we have money left for a meal at the end of the day—much less money for designer labels to fill our closets.
Yet, there is no reason to fret, fashionistas: the acclaimed designer Prabal Gurung and everyone’s favorite wallet-friendly retailer, Target, have partnered up to provide us a solution to our tight student budgets and our depressed closets.
Following in the steps of the late, great Alexander McQueen, Missoni and Rodarte, to name a few, Gurung will be releasing a new collection for Target with over 80 affordable pieces.
Gurung launched his very first clothing line in 2009 at New York Fashion Week.
Gurung, who is from Kathmandu, Nepal, began his design career in India and then moved to New York to study at Parson’s The New School for Design. He spent two years with Cynthia Rowley’s design and production teams and was also appointed the design director at fashion house Bill Blass for five years before launching his own collection, PRABAL GURUNG. Prominent figures such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and other celebrities have worn his designs.
In one of the most anticipated collaboration lines to date, Gurung has partnered up with the Target franchise to develop a limited edition 2013 women’s collection, which will encompass elegant and modern style at a more affordable price. The line will offer apparel and accessories, including handbags, shoes and jewelry that will set you apart from the crowd.
While reflecting on the collection, Gurung said, “I wanted to make clothes that make women feel beautiful.”
Inspired by a young woman’s journey through love, Prabal Gurung x Target will be on Target’s racks just in time for Valentine’s Day. It offers apparel and accessories suitable for all occasions.
According to an article by Fashionologie, Gurung said “The collection is inspired by a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone–from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement.”
Gurung has created unique floral and bright color combinations that will not fail to spruce up your spring wardrobe. The designs are romantic and stylish. The line will range in price from $19.99 to $199, with most apparel ringing in under $50. The most expensive piece will be a light blue leather biker jacket, with several pieces of jewelry rounding out the lowest price point. Accessories and shoes will also fall between accessible price points, from $12.99 to $39.99.
Gurung’s line will be available Feb. 10 at all Target stores and online at Target.com.
